Yamamoto gets hat trick in Spokane Chiefs’ sixth straight win

PORTLAND – Kailer Yamamoto picked up his first career hat trick and Adam Helewka scored the go-ahead goal as the Spokane Chiefs won their sixth consecutive game, beating the Portland Winterhawks 4-3 on Sunday night.

Helewka’s goal at 14:44 of the final period came on a power play. Yamamoto scored earlier in the third period to pick up the hat trick.

The Winterhawks scored on the power play for a 3-2 lead at 14:22 of the second period.

Yamamoto tied the game at 2 with a pair of second-period goals, one coming on a power play and the other four minutes later off his own rebound.

Jason Fram had three assists for the Chiefs while goaltender Tyson Verhelst made 45 saves.

The Chiefs beat Portland a second straight time after having lost 16 in a row to the Winterhawks.
