Boys roundup: West Valley ends Okanogan’s perfect season

Dylan Steen scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime Tuesday and West Valley handed Okanogan its first loss of the season, 69-67 at the West Valley tournament.

The Eagles (5-2) needed a fourth-quarter rally to make things interesting, and they got it by forcing turnovers with their pressure defense. WV outscored the Bulldogs 22-7 in the fourth to force overtime.

Martin Herford added 16 points and Anthony Rice chipped in 12 points for the Eagles.

Okanogan (7-1) was led by Jim Townsend’s game-high 28 points.

Central Valley 59, Richland 44: Michael Hannan scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to power the Bears (6-2) past the visiting Bombers. Cameron Tucker added 11 points and Josh Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds for Central Valley, which forced 15 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 42-17. Richland’s Landon Radliff tallied a team-high 16 points.

Lake City 61, Vallivue 47: Brandon Dotson hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points as the Timberwolves (3-4) used a hot start to get past the Falcons at the Lake City tournament in Coeur d’Alene. LC’s Joe Pasquale added 12 points and Nick Hancock chipped in 11. The Timberwolves wrap up the tournament today against Tahoma.

Pasco 63, Mt. Spokane 62: The Wildcats’ Stu Stiles made a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left in overtime, but the Bulldogs made a free throw on the ensuing possession to claim the victory in Pasco. Stiles finished with a game-high 18 points and Kyle Griffiths hit four 3s for 12 points for Mt. Spokane (1-6).

Pullman 72, St. George’s 44: Micah Lagerquist had 17 points and six rebounds to guide the Greyhounds (7-1) to a rout of the Dragons (5-5) at the Freeman tournament. Cody and Cade Peplinski scored nine points apiece to lead St. George’s.

Post Falls 100, Lapwai 44: Max McCullough led five players in double figures with 21 points as the Trojans (9-0) overwhelmed the Wildcats in Coeur d’Alene. Dalton Thompson added 20 points and Jack Millsap chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds for Post Falls.

Kentridge 62, Lakeland 55: The Chargers overcame a 14-point first-quarter deficit and beat the Hawks (7-2) at the Lake City tournament. Tyrel Derrick tallied a game-high 22 points for Lakeland, which will take on Columbia River today.

Riverside 63, Mission Bay 36: Tyler Axtell had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds and the Rams (8-1) dumped the Buccaneers at the Surf ‘N Slam Tournament in San Diego. Jesse Anselm added 14 points for Riverside, which went 2-1 at the tournament.

Colfax 58, Lake Roosevelt 54 (OT): Danny Robinson scored 23 points and the Bulldogs (8-2) made 8 of 11 free throws in overtime and slid past the Raiders at the West Valley tournament. Colfax made 22 of 28 from the line in all. Keith Gfeller added 15 points for the Bulldogs.

Tonasket 68, Colville 58: Colton Leap scored 29 points to power the Tigers past the Indians (1-7) at the West Valley tournament. Leap, 6 inches taller than any of the Colville players, scored 22 points in the paint and hit three 3-pointers. The Indians’ Chase Sandaine had a monster game – 15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and eight steals – in a losing effort. Jack Hinds added eight points and seven rebounds for Colville.

Northwest Christian 87, Freeman 69: Asher Cox scored 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting and the Crusaders (8-2) pulled away in the second half and dumped the Scotties (2-6) at the Freeman tournament. NWC’s Nathan Sander added 17 points and Ryan Ricks chipped in 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Crusaders outscored Freeman 48-29 in the second half. The Scotties’ Jake Phipps tallied a team-high 17 points.

Liberty 69, Odessa-Harrington 27: The Lancers (8-1) set the tone with a 30-6 first-quarter run and cruised past the visiting Titans (3-5). Freeman’s Clay Fleming had 16 points and Match Burnham added 15.

Wilbur-Creston 47, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 40: Colton Magers scored 10 points and the Wildcats (8-1) used a fast start to get past the Warriors (6-2) in Coulee City.

Oakesdale 45, College Place 30: Zach Dabolt and Tanner Dingman scored 13 points apiece and the Nighthawks (1-5) defeated College Place in College Place, Washington. Parker Kelly added 11 points for Oakesdale.
