Obituary: Santorsola, Rosemarie (Knop)

Age 86

SANTORSOLA, Rosemarie (Knop) May 3, 1928-December 26, 2014 Rosemarie (Rose) Knop Santorsola was born May 3, 1928, in Cottonwood, Idaho, to John and Gertrude Knop.

In 1942, the family moved to Spokane, where she graduated from Marycliff High School in 1946 and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1949.

In 1954, she married James (Jim) Santorsola and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

The couple lived with their growing family for 50 years in the home he built for her.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She possessed a quiet and humble strength and regarded her greatest achievement in life as the family she raised alongside her husband.

She enjoyed a life well lived, particularly traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.

With her husband Jim she traveled the world, including trips to China, Russia, Sweden, Italy, and Spain, among other destinations.

Yet, everyone who knew her understood that the most important destinations were her home, and her family.

She was a devout Catholic and had been an active member of Mary Queen Parish, Spokane, since 1969.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; her sons, Anthony (Julie), Edward (Tina), Alan, David (Robin), and Thomas (Jamie); her daughters, Theresa (Jeffrey) Utesch and Janine (Michael) Jones; grandchildren, Jennifer Glenn, Nicholas Santorsola, Katie Hoisington, Jamie and Matthew Utesch, Christina and Vanessa Santorsola, Andrea and Erin Jones; and great-grandchildren Connor and Bailey Glenn.

She is survived as well by her sister, Eleanor Hawkins, and her brother, Dick (Barbara).

Her sister, Marcella, preceded her in death.

The Rosary will be recited for Rose on Friday, January 2, at 7 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 3, at 10 a.m. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 3423 E. Carlisle Ave., Spokane.

Instead of flowers, the family asks that gifts be given in Rose’s memory to Hospice of Spokane.
