Obituary: Stuckart, Larry
Larry attended Regis High School and spent his summers working in berry and bean fields and at the local cannery.
Larry made many lifelong friends while attending Gonzaga University.
During his time at Gonzaga he led protests against the Vietnam War and met the love of his life, Mary Anne.
Larry and Mary Anne were married on May 9th, 1971.
Larry spent the entirety of his career with SNAP (known formerly as Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs).
Though he served many roles at SNAP, he spent 18 years as Executive Director.
SNAP was more than a job for Larry-it fulfilled his mission to serve the poor.
Larry was a mentor and friend to many and his work touched the lives of clients, employees and other non-profits in Spokane.
Larry believed that his work was about service and friendship and he instilled these values in his employees.
SNAP’s mission mirrored Larry’s belief that “every client deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.”
Larry’s impact in our community will be felt for many years to come.
Larry was a lifelong learner who loved to read and earned his Masters of Organizational Leadership degree at Gonzaga in 1993.
He served on numerous boards, including the Non Profit Insurance Program (NPIP).
He also received many community awards, and was named the Weatherization Champion for Washington in 2006.
Larry and Mary Anne were best friends, travel companions and partners for 43 years.
They loved Gonzaga basketball games, the Mariners and the Seahawks.
The Stuckart clan spent time camping and visiting family in many areas of the United States and Europe.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by Mary Anne, sons Ben (Ann) and Nick (Kelli), and grandchildren Ephram and Freya.
He also leaves behind his sister Mary, brother Robert (Paula), and Mary Anne’s sister Jo Ann (Juan).
Larry was the beloved uncle to Geoff (Amy), Beth (Allen), Tom (Hannah), and Kati (Ismaila).
The entire family was lucky to be able to gather at the Oregon coast in July 2013 to celebrate Larry’s retirement.
Larry was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer in February.
He received excellent care from Cancer Care Northwest, Group Health and Sacred Heart Hospital.
Larry left this world on December 28th.
His memorial service will be held on December 31st at 11 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2120 East 1st.
Monsignor Steiner will officiate the memorial service with a reception to follow at the parish hall.
