Immigration reform needed
Speaker John Boehner and House Republican leaders like Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers are getting ready to release immigration principles. I truly hope this document will reflect the values important to our community, including the chance to earn citizenship, workplace protections for all workers and keeping families together.
McMorris Rodgers has said she’s in favor of moving forward on immigration. We need her to make sure Boehner’s document reflects the needs of the 11 million aspiring Americans without papers.
There are millions of immigrants in the shadows who want to become a part of this country but have no way of doing so. And deporting all 11 million undocumented immigrants or leaving them as second-class Americans, as some immigration hardliners have suggested, is just plain unrealistic and inhumane.
I’m calling on Cathy McMorris Rodgers to stand up for these important immigration values. Millions need her to act.
