Liberty Lake blotter: Traffic stop brings host of charges
A man driving a car registered to an inmate currently in the Spokane County Jail caused some trouble of his own this week when he refused to stop for a Liberty Lake police officer and then hid in someone’s home.
An officer attempted to pull over a car the afternoon of Jan. 21. The driver eventually stopped the car and ran through several yards before entering a home in the 1500 block of North Colonial Court through an unlocked slider door, said police Chief Brian Asmus. He was found crouching behind a dresser. The man was booked into the Spokane County Jail on several warrants. He also faces new charges of driving without a license, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
Other incidents from Jan. 21-27
Jan. 23: A woman came to the police station to report that the custodial parent of her son has left the country without her permission and in violation of court orders.
Jan. 24: A business in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road reported that a drunk woman would not leave. The woman said she had missed her bus and didn’t have money for a cab. She was driven to Post Falls. A caller reported seeing a man walking in the area of Country Vista Drive and Liberty Heights Lane who kept falling into the ditch. An officer contacted the man, who was reportedly drunk, and gave him a ride home.
Jan. 25: A business in the 1500 block of North Liberty Lake Road reported that a woman took $150 in makeup products without paying. A business in the 1300 block of North Liberty Lake Road reported a man sleeping inside the business whom they wanted removed.
Arrests: Police made seven arrests for driving with a suspended license, one arrest for driving while intoxicated, one arrest for driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license, one arrest for driving with a suspended license and hit and run, and one arrest on warrants for theft and possession of drugs.
Citations: Officers handed out three citations for expired vehicle registration, eight for failure to show proof of liability insurance, 10 for speeding and two for speeding in a school zone. Additional citations were given for attempting to elude police, minor operating a vehicle after alcohol consumption, use of a cellphone and texting while driving.
