SUPER BOWL XLVIII: Break out the chicken wings and liquid refreshments: America’s day of football-related gluttony is upon us. The big game pits the NFL’s No. 1 offense (Denver Broncos) against the No. 1 defense (Seattle Seahawks) in frigid New Jersey. But if the sight of beefy men pummeling one another on fake grass doesn’t do it for you, there are always the silly commercials and the rousing halftime show starring Bruno Mars. SUNDAY: Forget the football combatants. Tonight’s big winner could be “Brooklyn Nine Nine.” The Golden Globe-winning freshman sitcom gets some much-needed exposure tonight when it airs after the Super Bowl and “New Girl.” The guest list for the special episode includes Adam Sandler and NFL legend Joe Theismann. 8 p.m., Fox.
SUNDAY: The game is still on in “Sherlock, Series III,” but sadly not for long. Tonight’s installment, “His Last Vow,” is the season finale, so fans of Benedict Cumberbatch’s quick-thinking sleuth had better savor it. 8:58, KSPS; 9:58 p.m., KCDT.
MONDAY: “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit: 50 Years of Beautiful” is a special hosted by Heidi Klum that celebrates five decades of a publishing institution. Included: Interviews with Kate Upton, Tyra Banks and Christie Brinkley and music from Tim McGraw, Enrique Iglesias, John Legend and Lady Antebellum. 9 p.m., NBC.
TUESDAY: On “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the team’s pursuit of the Clairvoyant lands them on a train that appears to be taking them to their death. In a brighter development, comics icon Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance. 8 p.m., ABC.
TUESDAY: Even on a show called “The Biggest Loser,” there has to be a winner. In the Season 15 finale, we find out which contestant did the best job of dealing with his or her weighty issues. 9 p.m., NBC.
WEDNESDAY: “American Idol” adds a new twist this week with the “Hollywood or Home” round. Before they have a chance to wallow in their golden-ticket glory, some of the wannabes will be called in front of the judges to perform solo numbers that will determine whether they advance or get sent to the airport with their dream in tatters. 8 p.m., Fox.
WEDNESDAY: On “Arrow,” Katrina Law (“Spartacus”) guest stars as Nyssa, a member of the ominous-sounding League of Assassins. Apparently, it’s the kind of club that doesn’t do a whole lot of charity work. 8 p.m., The CW.
THURSDAY: In an unusual bit of scheduling, action at the Winter Olympics gets rolling a day before the Opening Ceremony in Sochi, Russia. Tonight’s slate includes competition in two new events: Team figure skating and slopestyle snowboarding. 8 p.m., NBC.
THURSDAY: After a 22-year run in which he typically dominated the late-night ratings, Jay Leno says farewell to the “Tonight Show” (again). His final guest was also his first - Billy Crystal. On Feb. 17, Jimmy Fallon takes over as host. 11:34 p.m., NBC.
FRIDAY: Time to invite Bob Costas into your home for a couple of weeks as the Opening Ceremony kicks off the winter games in earnest. Expect plenty of intense competition, as well as mushy personal profiles designed to make your eyes all soggy. 7:30 p.m., NBC.
SATURDAY: Ready for a purrfectly weird sleepover? On “Lil BUB’s Special Special,” Amy Sedaris oversees a slumber party involving the frisky feline and her animal friends. Brace yourself for prank calls, pillow fights and other catty high jinks. 9 p.m., Animal Planet.
