Eastern women hold off Northern Colorado

Melissa Williams’ jump shot with 1 minute, 57 seconds left snapped a 50-all tie and Eastern Washington outscored Northern Colorado 9-3 in the final 7 minutes Saturday for a 52-51 Big Sky Conference win in Greeley, Colo.

The Eagles (9-10, 5-5), trailing 48-43, began their comeback with Hayley Hodgins’ 3-pointer with 5:12 left. Williams hit two free throws for a 48-all tie with 4:26 to go. EWU’s Jade Redmon and Shelby Dougherty of the Bears (11-9, 5-6) traded baskets before Williams’ jumper.

The Bears’ Molly Duehn missed a 3-point attempt with 6 seconds left. Kim Lockridge secured the offensive rebounds and missed a jumper at the buzzer.

Hodgins and Laura Hughes scored 12 points apiece for EWU. Williams had 10 rebounds.

Idaho 77, Seattle 59: Stacey Barr scored a game-high 25 points and had 12 rebounds as the Vandals (15-7, 8-0 Western Athletic Conference) placed five players in double figures to defeat the Redhawks (10-11, 5-3) for their first eight-game winning streak since 1985-86.

UI’s Ali Forde scored eight points during a 19-7 run to open the second half for a 54-35 lead.

Whitworth 75, Pacific 66: Jessica Kramer scored six of her 10 points during a 10-0 second-half run for a 65-55 lead as the Pirates (14-5, 8-2 Northwest Conference) pulled away from the visiting Boxers (5-13, 1-9).

Whitworth’s KC McConnell and Kayla Johnson scored 19 points apiece and combined for 17 rebounds. Reserve Katara Belton-Sharp added 15 points.

Wenatchee Valley 52, CC Spokane 50: Darian Gasseling scored 22 points and the host Knights (11-12, 3-5 NWAACC) used a 15-3 scoring edge from long range to nip the Sasquatch (3-5, 11-10). Riley Holsinger scored 17 and Morgan Freeman had 14 points and nine rebounds for CCS, which hit 1 of 11 3-pointers.

Southern Idaho 67, North Idaho 50: Julia Dufurrena had 17 rebounds and the Golden Eagles (22-3, 8-2 SWAC) outscored the visiting Cardinals 20-2 at the line to pick up the win. Bailey Schroeder scored 14 points and Georgia Stirton had 10 points and seven rebounds for NIC (18-7, 4-6).
