Obituary: Mccann, Alfred W. “Al”

Age 82

McCANN, Alfred W. “Al” Alfred W. “Al” McCann, age 82, passed peacefully to the hands of God on January 27, 2014 at Hospice House in Spokane.

He was born on March 26, 1931, on his mother’s 45th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul R. and Erma McCann; sister, Billy Strong; and brother, Paul D. McCann.

Al attended St. Martin’s High School and College as well as Seattle University.

After college, Al worked for Seattle City Light, in Newhalem, WA.

He was charged with the daily work diary during completion of City Light’s Hydro Electric dam construction.

In 1960, Al began working for the United States Geological Survey, Water Resources, retiring in 1993.

Al was an active volunteer.

He assisted in Religious Education to the Nesqually Tribe of Indians, Olympia; with the Boy Scouts of America serving a variety of positions; member of the All Saints Home and School Board; Ferris High School Ham on Regal; Meals on Wheels; C.O.P.S-S.E; Shoreacres Estates (Loon Lake) Board; and was a Joseph for Immaculate Heart Retreat Center.

He was also a 57 year member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Secretary for several years.

Al is survived by his wife of 57 plus years, Joanne; daughter, Maureen (Scott) Randall of Spokane; sons, Patrick McCann of Spokane, and Martin McCann of Seattle; grandchildren, Katie (Christian) Valenta of Post Falls, ID, Carrie Randall of Spokane and Matthew (Brianna) Randall of Peoria, AZ; great-grandchildren, Madison and Ethan Valenta; along with numerous brothers, sisters-in-law and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vigil services will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at 7pm and will be conducted at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 34th and Perry, Spokane with visitation beginning at 6pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10am, also at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Inurnment will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11am at Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, 6910 Ben Burr Road, Spokane.
