Obituary: Sitton, Vester Murlyn
Age 87
His parents were Owen and Beulah Sitton.
He had one sister: Betty; two brothers: Gerald and Lowell.
His family farmed in the Washtucna area until moving to Spokane in 1939 and then settling in the Hawk Creek area in 1940.
Vester graduated from Creston High School in 1944 and joined the US Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in August, 1946.
Vester married Isabelle MacMaster on January 25, 1948 and they were blessed with three children, Vicki Marie, Monty Ray and Dana Duane.
The family lived in the home that Vester built in the late 1940s.
Vester worked at McInroy Meat Company until 1951 and then worked for the Wilbur School District maintaining their school buses until 1960.
In May, 1960, Vester bought and operated Ves’ Texaco in Wilbur until November, 1971.
He then worked for Cominco American as their shop foreman until his retirement in 1981.
One of Vester’s passions was restoring automobiles including a 1920 Model T, which was donated to the Wilbur Historical Society.
His street rods included a 1934 Ford pickup and a 1931 Ford Victoria.
He also restored a 1958 MGA and a 1931 Ford Model A pickup as well as helping many friends with their projects.
Vester built his family a vacation home on Lake Roosevelt where he spent many hours with family and friends.
Vester’s other great passions were fishing, hunting, bee keeping, swimming, sailboarding and water skiing with his family.
He and Isabelle spent time traveling around the United States and Europe visiting friends and sightseeing.
In 1985, during the winter he and Isabelle spent six weeks in Hawaii working on a Mercy Mission ship, sponsored by “Youth with a Mission” helping refurbish the ship to become a hospital ship.
Later that same year, they worked in Canada on the same ship for three weeks.
In 1995, they sold the lake cabin and bought property in Seven Bays and Vester built their retirement home.
One of the most important things in this home was a four-car garage to house his pride and joy (antique cars he had restored).
He spent many summers taking these cars around the Pacific Northwest entering them into car shows and has many trophies that showcase the success of his hard loved labor.
He valued his faith in God and Jesus and enjoyed his time with his brothers and sisters in the Lord.
He was always helping friends and family in many ways.
As his daughter would say “My Dad can fix anything”.
Vester is survived by his wife Isabelle; three children: Vicki Parrish, Monty Sitton (Ed) and Dana Sitton (Bert); four grandchildren: Craig Parrish (Barbara), Brent Parrish (Tamie), Daron Sitton, Stacy Sitton Hammer (James); and three great-granddaughters: Ella Anne Duffy Sitton, Isabella Marie Parrish, Aria Evelyn Parrish and Macy T. Lou Hammer; and his sister, Betty Fraizer and many nieces and nephews.
He also was able to share a special relationship with Kenny (Lois) Kramer and Sam (Katie) Weaver and many of his extended Christian families.
He will be remembered as the hardest-working man we all knew, that spent so much of his personal time mentoring people along his journey, Father, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa and a very special friend and brother to his Christian Family.
He shared 66 loving years with the love of his life, Isabelle.
In remembrance, donations may be given to the Wilbur Sunrise Foursquare Church or the Wilbur Historical Society.
A memorial service will be on Monday, February 3, 2014, 11:00 AM at the Wilbur Sunrise Foursquare Church.
