Suspected drunken driver knocks out power in Coeur d’Alene

TUESDAY, FEB. 4, 2014, 5:11 P.M.

A car sheared off an Avista power pole at the base on Huetter Road in Coeur d’Alene today, knocking out power to nearby homes and businesses.

James S. Clark, 43, was driving north on Huetter Road at high speed when he crossed the centerline and hit the pole near Prairie Avenue, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office news release. Clark was not injured and was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, the release said. Clark has three previous arrests in Kootenai County on charges of driving under the influence.
