Lakeside ties Scotties atop NEA

Jocelyn Cook-Cox had 18 points and 16 rebounds as Lakeside jumped ahead early and held off Freeman’s late rally in a 55-49 Northeast A girls basketball win Tuesday night in Nine Mile Falls.

The win moved the Eagles (17-2, 10-1) into a tie with the Scotties (14-5, 10-1) atop the league standings. Both teams have one remaining regular-season game. Lakeside plays at Kettle Falls and Freeman hosts Riverside. Both games are on Thursday.

Lakeside, which got off to a slow start in its 62-49 loss to Freeman on Jan. 14, got the upper hand early on Tuesday. The Eagles outscored Freeman 12-4 in the first quarter and led 25-14 at the half.

The Scotties rallied in the fourth, but couldn’t complete a comeback that would have sealed first place in the NEA.

Freeman’s Sierra McGarity scored a game-high 24 points and Katie Vold added 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Riverside 39, Kettle Falls 35 (OT): Marisa Pace scored 17 points and grabbed a career-best 21 rebounds, Julianna Trepanier added 12 points and the Rams (6-13, 3-8) rallied in the fourth quarter and overtime to beat the visiting Bulldogs (10-9, 4-7). Erin Johnson tallied a team-high 14 points for Kettle Falls, but the Bulldogs made just 11 of their 28 free-throw attempts.

Chewelah 51, Medical Lake 35: A 20-4 run by the Cougars in the fourth quarter broke open a tie game and gave Chewelah (5-14, 3-8) a win over the host Cardinals (10-9, 4-7). Kaitlin Krouse had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Maggie Cobb added 11 points and eight boards for the Cougars. Kettle Falls’ Emily Bonsant scored 11 points.

Great Northern

East Valley 64, Cheney 41: Hannah Burland and Bailey Gilbert led the Knights’ balanced scoring attack with 11 points apiece and East Valley (15-3, 8-2) surged ahead after a competitive first quarter and dumped the host Blackhawks (4-12, 2-7). The teams were tied at 12 after the first quarter, but East Valley held control the rest of the way. Cheney’s Megan McDowell scored a game-high 16 points.

Colville 49, West Valley 38: Jessi Wittmeyer scored 15 points and Tyra Brons added 11 as the Indians (12-4, 6-3) pulled away late and beat the visiting Eagles (12-5, 6-3). Colville outscored West Valley 18-10 in the fourth. The Eagles’ Erin Higbie tallied a team-high 14 points.

Clarkston 48, Deer Park 25: Brooke Morrow scored 12 points to guide the Bantams (9-8, 7-2) past the host Stags (1-16, 0-9). Deer Park’s Taylor Varang led all scorers with 14 points.

Intermountain

Timberlake 39, Kellogg 24: Keelie Lawler scored 12 points and the Tigers (12-7, 4-2) topped the Wildcats (10-7, 3-2) at Spirit Lake. Timberlake made 8 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Central Idaho 2A

St. Maries 40, Coeur d’Alene Charter 29: Haylee Waddell scored 13 points and Kelsey Auer added 10 as the Lumberjacks grabbed control in the second quarter and beat the host Panthers. The teams were tied 4-4 after the first quarter, but St. Maries went on a 16-4 run in the second. Coeur d’Alene Charter’s Jacklyn Jenson had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Northeast 1B North

Selkirk 46, Cusick 43: Lexy Ellsworth scored 17 points and Katie Couch added 16 as the Rangers (11-7, 7-4) edged the visiting Panthers (11-5, 8-4). With less than 2 minutes to play, Couch hit a 3-pointer and Ellsworth hit a shot near the basket to put Selkirk ahead by five. Caytlin Nenema tallied a team-high 17 points for Cusick.

Republic 60, Curlew 43: Shania Graham scored 21 points and Lily Beckwith added 14 as the Tigers (17-2, 11-0) topped the visiting Cougars (7-10, 5-7). Curlew’s Lindsey Gibson scored 18 points.

Inchelium 50, Northport 31: Senior Tasheena Kohler had 27 points, 19 rebounds, six steals and five blocks as the Hornets (7-6, 6-5) overcame a sluggish start and beat the visiting Mustangs (0-20, 0-14). Northport led 13-6 after the first quarter, but was outscored 44-18 the rest of the way. The Mustangs’ Ashlyn Baribault tallied a team-high 13 points.

Northeast 1B South

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 56, Odessa-Harrington 41: Monique Isaak scored 20 points and the Warriors (10-8, 5-3) used a quick start to get past the Titans (8-12, 3-5) in Coulee City. Jordan Tanke led Odessa-Harrington with 13 points.

Wilbur-Creston 72, Wellpinit 34: Jessica Boyer scored 19 points and Kaelee Reed added 11 points and 18 rebounds as the Wildcats (20-0, 8-0) overwhelmed the Redskins (8-9, 4-4) in Wilbur. Mason Jaeger and Elizabeth Brudevold each added 10 points for Wilbur-Creston. Wellpinit’s Kyra Antone led all scorers with 20 points.

Southeast 1B

Rosalia 44, Touchet 41: Mackenzie Reddish and Stacey St. Carrothers scored 12 points apiece and the Spartans (9-9, 6-8) edged the visiting Indians (5-7, 5-7). Touchet rallied in the third, outscoring Rosalia 19-5 to even the score heading into the fourth. But three Touchet players fouled out late, leaving only three Indians’ players on the floor in the final minute. Touchet’s Cierra McKeown scored 28 points.

North Star

Kootenai 53, Mullan 29: Katey Mae McInturff scored nine of her game-high 27 points in the first quarter and the Warriors raced past the Tigers in Harrison.

Nonleague

Bonners Ferry 43, Clark Fork 20: Desi Minor had 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Badgers (3-13) clamped down defensively and routed the visiting Wampus Cats. Clark Fork was held to one point in the second quarter and two in the third. Lyndsie Kiebert led Clark Fork with 10 points.
