Sounders top San Jose in friendly

Tacoma News Tribune

Obafemi Martins scored two goals in the first Sounders FC competition of the new year Wednesday, leading Seattle to a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes in a preseason friendly at Tucson, Ariz.

Martins’ goals came in the 27th and 29th minutes, and both were assisted by Andy Rose.

In the first, Rose got to a throw-in and directed it to Martins, who sent it across the line. Two minutes later, Rose took a cross from Dylan Remick and headed to Martins, who finished from in front of the goal.

San Jose’s lone goal came from former Sounder Mike Fucito in the 86th minute.

Newly acquired Stefan Frei went the whole way in goal for Seatle.
