Pac-12: Wildcats rally late to defeat Ducks
Nick Johnson scored 18 points, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 14 points and 10 rebounds in place of injured starter Brandon Ashley and No. 2 Arizona grinded out a 67-65 victory over Oregon on Thursday night in Tucson, Ariz.
Arizona (22-1, 9-1) struggled offensively in its first game without Ashley, who is out for the season with a foot injury.
As they have so many times this season, the Wildcats pulled out a victory by turning up the defensive pressure late to overcome a 4-for-16 effort from 3-point range and 16 missed free throws.
T.J. McConnell hit a 3-pointer with 90 seconds left and Johnson went 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the final minute to prevent the Wildcats’ first losing streak of the season.
Joseph Young and Jason Calliste had 14 points each for the Ducks (15-7, 3-7).
Arizona State 86, Oregon State 82 (OT): Jermaine Marshall scored 25 points, including seven in overtime, as the Wildcats held off the Beavers in Tempe, Ariz.
Jahii Carson added 23 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Arizona State (17-6, 6-4), which had a chance to win at the end of regulation, then took the lead for good halfway through overtime.
Roberto Nelson had 26 points, 24 after halftime, to lead Oregon State (13-9, 5-5), which scored with 19 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Jordan Bachynski added 17 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the Sun Devils.
