Men’s basketball roundup: Whitworth records 7th consecutive win

Taylor Farnsworth had 18 points and 13 rebounds and the 21st-ranked Whitworth men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a 70-58 Northwest Conference win Saturday night over Pacific Lutheran in Parkland, Wash.

It was also the Pirates’ 18th straight win over the Lutes.

Dustin McConnell tallied a game-high 23 points for Whitworth, which made all 12 of its free throws in the final 5 minutes to seal the win.

The Pirates (17-4, 11-1) made 24 of 52 shots from the field and held a 35-29 rebounding advantage.

Bryce Miller and Brandon Lester led PLU (7-14, 4-8) with 12 points apiece.

The Pirates host Linfield on Friday night.

CC Spokane 74, Treasure Valley 72: Dustin Patchen’s putback with 9 seconds remaining was the difference in the Sasquatch’s NWAACC win over the Chukars at Spokane Community College.

Dean Richey tallied a team-high 20 points and Chase Haack added 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kwinn Hanson, who fouled out with 2:45 to play, finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The game was evenly played throughout and featured 13 lead changes.

DeSean Mattow scored 22 points and Chis Willis pulled down 11 rebounds for the Chukars (14-8, 7-3).

CCS (16-8, 6-4) plays at Walla Walla on Wednesday.
