Silvertips defeat Chiefs 3-2

Joshua Winquist had two goals and an assist to send the Everett Silvertips past the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in a Western Hockey League game on Sunday. Winquist put Everett ahead 2-1 at 17:15 of the second period than added another goal at 2 minutes of the third period. Marcus Messier scored his second goal in two nights to bring the Chiefs back within 3-2 at 13:51 of the third. Spokane had a pair of power-play opportunities later in the period but couldn’t find the net. The Chiefs finished 0 for 6 on power plays. Everett took a 1-0 lead at 14:20 of the first period on a power-play goal by Matt Pufahl. Spokane tied it on Riley Whittingham’s 12th goal of the season at 8:31 of the second period. Markson Bechtold, Colton Bobyk, Adam Helewka and Mike Aviani all picked up assists for the Chiefs. Chiefs goalie Garret Hughson faced 26 shots from the Silvertips while Spokane managed 18 of their own. Spokane remains in fifth place in the Western Conference. The game was the third in three nights for the Chiefs, who now come home for a four-game homestand that opens against the Canadian Hockey League’s top-ranked team, the Kelowna Rockets, on Wednesday. The Chiefs are home for eight of their next nine games. 
