Three injured in head-on crash north of Bonners Ferry

Staff report
A teenage driver from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, was airlifted to a Coeur d’Alene hospital Saturday after Idaho State Police say she crossed the centerline on U.S. highway 95 and struck another vehicle head-on. Kelsey J. Shutes, 18, was northbound on 95 north of Bonners Ferry about 9:46 p.m. driving a Chevy Aveo when she crossed into southbound lanes and struck a 2012 Chevy pickup driven by Gerald D. Palmer, 46, of Creston, B.C., according to the ISP. Palmer and his passenger, Samantha J. Palmer, 29, who were wearing seat belts, were both injured and taken to Boundary Community Hospital. Shutes was taken via Life Flight to Kootenai Health. She was not wearing a seat belt, the ISP said. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
