Obituary: Beckman, John E.

Age 93

BECKMAN, John E. (Age 93) Of Lewiston, a retired meat cutter, died Tuesday at Royal Plaza Care Center.

He was born April 17, 1920, in Lewiston to George and Kathryn Stember Beckman.

He graduated from Lewiston Senior High School in 1938.

John enlisted in the Navy in 1942, and was stationed on the USS Deuel (APA-160).

He fought in the Pacific until he was honorably discharged in 1946.

He and Dorothy L. Ross were married May 2, 1953, at Spokane.

John worked as a meat cutter at several stores from the late 1940s to 1986.

He was a past president of Southeast Lions Club in Spokane.

John and Dorothy retired in 1986, after spending 40 years in Spokane.

They moved to Clarkston where John enjoyed playing golf at Clarkston Country Club, the site of his only hole-in-one in 1988.

Survivors include two sons, Donald R. Beckman of Redmond, Wash., and Douglas J. Beckman and his wife Janet of Clayton, Wash.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; sister, Ann Miller; brothers, George Beckman and Ralph Beckman.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Tri-State Memorial Hospital Foundation, Clarkston.

Malcom’s Brower-Wann Memorial chapel at Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be planned for a date in late June.
