Obituary: Shepherd, Mava Louise

Age 90

SHEPHERD, Mava Louise Mava Louise Shepherd passed away on January 21, 2014 at Avalon Care Center at Northpointe, in Spokane, WA.

Mava was born on March 20, 1923 at St. Charles, SD., to Arthur David Sr. and Gail (Shaw) David.

She attended schools in North and South Dakota and graduated from high school at Bremerton High School in Bremerton, WA.

Her brother, Gale David, introduced her to a buddy from Ft.

Warden, Philip Bender.

They married on November 21, 1943 at Ft.

Warden, WA.

After the birth of their first child, David, in 1945 she moved to Spokane to wait for Phil’s return from the Philippines.

She and Phil divorced in 1969.

She married Ben Shepherd on July 22, 1972 at Spokane, WA.

They made their home at Elk, WA.

They met at Madison North Nursing Home.

She was a cook and he was the maintenance man.

She and Ben left Madison North when he required open-heart surgery.

Ben died in June of 1974.

She returned to work at Madison North in 1974 as a cook and retired from there in 1993.

She continued to live at the home at Elk, WA., until 2003 when she moved back to Spokane.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; son, David; her parents; and all her siblings and their spouses.

She is survived by four daughters: Janet David, Barbara (Rod) Burton, Phyllis (Mike) Van Hoff and Diane (Billy) Rogers; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and, at her request, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
