Sen. Patty Murray to seek fifth term in 2016

Associated Press

SEATTLE — Sen. Patty Murray says she’ll seek a fifth term in 2016.

She told The Seattle Times that even if Democrats lose their majority she’d rather be in the middle of the debate than yelling at her television.

Murray is 63. She was first elected in 1992 by campaigning as a “mom in tennis shoes.”

Completing five terms would give her 30 years in the U.S. Senate, equaling the tenure of Sen. Henry “Scoop” Jackson.

Murray ranks fourth in leadership among Senate Democrats and is a leader on budget issues.
