SCRAPS requests animal cruelty charge against owner of emaciated dog

By The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service is requesting that a felony first-degree animal cruelty charge be filed against the owner of a pit bull that was found in such bad condition that it was euthanized.

The 4-year-old brown and white dog was found in the 1800 block of West Boone Avenue on Feb. 1. The dog weighed 31 pounds, about half of what it should have, and was so weak it could not raise its head. The dog was taken to a veterinarian, who recommended that it be euthanized. The pit bull suffered from hypothermia and was starved, according to a SCRAPS news release.

The dog’s owner and other witnesses were interviewed during the investigation into the dog’s condition, but SCRAPS has not identified the owner.
