The deadline to register is Feb. 25, and the cost is $39.

Library to celebrate ’60s, ’70s music

SPOKANE VALLEY – D&J Flashback Music Revue will present “The ’60s & ’70s Flashback Music Flower Power Hour,” Saturday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Library, 12004 E. Main Ave.

The event will feature a 1960s costume contest and audience participation with basic percussion instruments, drums and cymbals.

The event is free, but there is limited space.

Spokane Fire Dept. to debut alert system

SPOKANE – The Spokane Fire Department is introducing the downloadable smartphone application, PulsePoint, at 10 a.m. Friday at the training center, 1618 N. Rebecca St.

PulsePoint alerts CPR trained people in the immediate vicinity of a cardiac emergency and gives them a chance to get to the victim and perform CPR before an ambulance arrives.

The minutes before trained medical personal get to a cardiac arrest victim are critical in terms of saving someone’s life.

Favorite-nonprofit contest launches

SPOKANE – Spokane Teachers Credit Union is launching its “Who Do You Love?” contest tomorrow. Visit STCU’s Facebook page and vote for a local nonprofit organization of your choice through Feb. 20 – then vote for one of 10 finalists between Feb. 22-28. STCU will donate $2,500 to the winning organization, $1,500 to the runner up and $1,000 to the third-placing organization. Call: (509) 344-2188.

Sheriff’s office warns of new phone scam

SPOKANE – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to another phone scam.

A South Hill resident recently got a call from someone who identified himself as an officer, claiming the resident had warrants out for her arrest. The caller then requested a credit card number in return for making the charge go away.

Anyone receiving calls like this should not give out any personal information; instead call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

SPOKANE – Pages of Harmony will deliver singing valentine’s greetings from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday.

A package includes two sweetheart songs by a babershop quartet, a valentine’s card, a balloon bouquet and a candy surprise for $40. Proceeds go to support Pages of Harmony.
