Injured man rescued from N. Idaho radio tower

A man rescued from a radio antenna tower at noon today in Athol may have lost part of his right hand in the mishap. The man, whose identity has not been released, was hanging about 20 feet up the tower with his right arm and hand pinned within the tower on Caravelle Road, the Timberlake Fire Protection District said. Rescuers freed the man and brought him down in about 20 minutes. A Life Flight helicopter crew from Sandpoint landed nearby and transported the patient to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene. One finger was severed in the accident and several others were nearly amputated, according to emergency radio reports. Rescuers were searching for the missing digit.
