Obituary: Destefano, Filomena Maria

Age 94

DESTEFANO, Filomena Maria Fanny (Filomena) Marie Destefano, lovingly known to virtually all who met her as “Aunt Fanny”, entered into the presence of the Lord peacefully February 9, 2014.

She was 94.

Born on May 14, 1919 to Joseph and Josephina Destefano.

Fanny spent her entire life sharing in the experiences and events of many close family and friends throughout the area.

She was a warm, selfless, and deeply religious woman who devoted her time and love to her many friends and relatives.

She became an integral and supportive member of each of their families in any way she felt could benefit them, and was thought of as a vital part of literally each one.

As a younger woman, she enjoyed her work for iconic Spokane businesses like The Crescent and the Fox Theater; and, she enjoyed the personal pleasures of dancing and listening to her favorite singer, Frank Sinatra.

Fanny was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Pete and Tom (and his spouse Frances); and, her sister Mary (and her spouse, Tex Montano).

She’s survived by her brother and sister-in-law Ray and Ethel Destefano of Spokane, and by numerous nieces, nephews, great-and ‘great-great’ nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends who are considered part of her family.

There will be a Rosary at Hennessy-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division on Monday, February 17, at 6 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 am, Tuesday, February 18, at St. Aloysius Church.

Fanny will be laid to rest with other members of her family at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane.
