Obituary: Landis, Helen Mary Petersen (Hayes)

Age 99

LANDIS, Helen Mary Petersen (Hayes) (Age 99) Helen was born in Bridgeport, WA, on March 6, 1914, the first of three daughters of Claude and Bessie Hayes.

The family moved to Wenatchee, where Helen graduated as Salutatorian of her Wenatchee High School class at the age of 16.

She’d have dearly loved to continue her education, but finances prevented it, so she began her long career as a secretary/bookkeeper.

She married S.R.

(Stub) Petersen in 1934 and they raised their family of three boys and one girl in Wenatchee, where they owned Hayes Cleaners.

Sadly, Helen lost Stub to cancer in 1975.

She and her second husband, Rod Landis, moved to Spokane in 1997 to be closer to her family.

Helen was a dedicated and always-supportive mother and wife, loved by all who knew her.

Her inner strength, generosity of spirit and non-judgmental good nature were fortified by her unwavering faith in God.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Stub, their son Alan, and her husband Rev.

Rod Landis.

She is survived by David (Patti) Petersen, Spokane; Jim (Cookie) Petersen, Seattle; Kris (Torney) Smith, Spokane; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; Patricia Landis, Dick Landis (Marilyn) and Paul Landis (Jan).

Helen passed away February 8, just a few weeks before her 100th birthday.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Harbor Crest and Harbor Glen for their loving care and support.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
