In brief: Spokane drive-by shooting inquiry continues

Spokane police continued to seek leads Sunday in a drive-by shooting a day earlier that left a man seriously injured.

The shooting took place just after 4 p.m. Saturday in front of an apartment on West Walton Street a block east of the Garland Theater. The victim, in his 30s, was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he underwent surgery, police said.

The shooter fired multiple times and fled the scene in what witnesses described as a large vehicle painted dark blue or green.

Major Crimes detectives were at the scene until 1 a.m. Sunday. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

Police say Moses Lake teen was targeted

Police say a 16-year-old boy shot and killed Sunday morning near Moses Lake was targeted, not the victim of a random attack.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said it did not have a suspect in custody Sunday.

Brandon Michael Mende, of Moses Lake, was shot around 3 a.m. at a home at 6020 Turnkey Road Northeast in the Larson Housing Area just outside Moses Lake, officials said.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and gathered evidence there Sunday.
