Daye dealt to San Antonio

NBA: The San Antonio Spurs traded for former Gonzaga Bulldog Austin Daye on Thursday.

The former first-round pick was acquired from the Toronto Raptors for guard Nando De Colo.

Daye signed with Toronto last summer and appeared in just eight games. The No. 15 pick in the 2009 draft has averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in the NBA, also playing for Detroit and Memphis.

De Colo, a member of the French national team, appeared in 98 games over the last two seasons for the Spurs, averaging 4.0 points and 2.1 assists. He made three starts this season while playing behind All-Star countryman Tony Parker.

Cougs invited to U.S. team tryouts

Volleyball: Four Washington State players will participate in tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Teams this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Junior Ver’Leea Hardaway, sophomore Kate Sommer and freshmen Emmy Allen and Kyra Holt were invited to be among the 248 athletes from 106 colleges and universities to particpate in the weekend evaluation at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

USA Volleyball will announce the selections by the end of March.

Shock select radio crew

AFL: The Spokane Shock announced the pair of Keith Osso and Larry Weir as the radio team for the 2014 season. Osso will be serving as the team’s color analyst while Weir will provide play-by-play, taking the place of former Shock radio host Dennis Patchin.

Osso has been in the Shock booth since the team’s move to the AFL in 2010, while Weir brings four years of experience covering the Shock during their time in af2.

Weir has also been the lead broadcaster for the Greater Spokane League high school Game of the Week since 2011.
