Liberty Lake Blotter: Wrong-way driver arrested, booked into jail
A driver who briefly drove the wrong way on Interstate 90 in Liberty Lake in an attempt to escape police was arrested after he got out of his car and tried flagging down other drivers.
“He was trying to get into other people’s cars,” said police Chief Brian Asmus.
An officer tried to pull the driver over near Appleway Avenue and Rockyhill Road and gave chase when he fled. The officer broke off the pursuit when the driver headed westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-90, Asmus said. People called 911 to report the man was on foot on the freeway and he was picked up by the officer and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a charge of eluding police and a felony warrant.
A Liberty Lake officer also participated in a chase that ended in an officer-involved shooting at Sullivan Road and Indiana Avenue the evening of Feb. 11. The officer did not fire his weapon, but a copy of his body camera recording of the incident has been turned over to investigators, Asmus said.
