Kellogg, Timberlake vie for title

The championship game in the Idaho 3A Region I boys basketball tournament is set: Timberlake and Kellogg at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at North Idaho College with a spot in the state tournament on the line.

Both won Monday at NIC.

Timberlake rode the combined 41 points of Keegan Scott (27) and Austin Allen (14) to a 55-50 triumph over Priest River. Kellogg’s balanced offense was led by the 16 points of Jesse Lambert in a 53-49 win over Bonners Ferry.

Priest River and Bonners Ferry will play a loser-out game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at NIC.

Scott and Allen each hit two of their four 3-pointers to spark a 17-point second quarter that gave the Tigers a 31-21 halftime lead. Jimmy Koch scored 17 to lead the Spartans.

Lambert hit 4 of 7 3-pointers and all four of his free throws in leading Kellogg. Tucker Gust added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Gus Colburn had 12 points and six assists for the Wildcats. Josh Pluid led Bonners Ferry with 14 points.

Idaho 4A Region I

Lakeland jumped to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in a 61-33 victory over Sandpoint at North Idaho College that eliminated the Bulldogs.

Tyrel Derrick scored 18 points and had seven assists for Lakeland, Jake Ram added 12 points and Slader Ray scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds. Chase Rodriguez scored eight to lead Sandpoint.

Lakeland plays Moscow at 8 p.m. Wednesday at NIC for the district championship.

Idaho 1A Division II District 1

Joe Brown scored 21 points and hit three 3-pointers as Lakeside defeated Wallace 74-55 at Timberlake in the first game of a best-of-three series.

Hunter Kolar also made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points for the Knights, who were 10 of 15 from beyond the arc. Brock Arthun scored 19 points to lead Wallace.

Game 2 is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Timberlake.

Idaho 2A Districts 1-2

Coeur d’Alene Charter and St. Maries will try to play their loser-out game tonight at Kootenai after it was postponed Monday because of the weather.

College golf

After a strong third and final round of play, the Washington State women tied for ninth at 12-over 876 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.

Ohio State came out on top, compiling a 26-under 838 for a 10-stroke margin over Oregon.

 WSU senior Mallory Kent made the biggest jump on the leaderboard Monday, moving up 10 spots to tie for 14th after shooting a 1-under 71. She finished at even-par 216.

Cougar Kristen Rue tied for 18th at 1-over 217.
