Obituary: Gough, Dale Clifford

GOUGH, Dale Clifford (Age 91) Dale passed away on February 23, 2014 at Royal Park Care Center in Spokane, WA.

He was born on August 9, 1922 in Salt Lake City, UT to Clarence Gough and Melba Strong.

Dale graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in January 1940.

He was a 1949 Washington State University Graduate with honors and Alpha Kappa Psi award for the highest grade point average in the school of Business and Economics.

In February 1942, Dale joined the U.S. Marine Corp and was selected for the Naval Aviation Cadet Program.

He was commissioned as 2nd Lt with Navy Wings in 1943.

He returned to reserve status while attending WSU.

Dale was recalled to active duty early in 1952 and sent to Korea.

He flew more than 100 combat missions in Korea and later received the Silver Star medal for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial fight.

He flew more than 18 years ending his career commissioned as Major.

He was also Chief Personnel Officer with National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and retired after 26 years of service with the Department of Commerce.

Dale received the Silver and Gold Medal from the Department of Commerce for distinguished service.

He grew up in Spokane and returned after retirement in 1984 where he was preceded in death by Joyce Gough.

Dale married Jeanne Matkin on May 16, 1998.

He was a member of the Liberty Lake/Meadowood Men’s Golf Club and participated in many tournaments and Pro Am events.

Throughout his life he was an avid skier and enjoyed skiing in many northwest resorts.

Jeanne and Dale enjoyed golf, relaxing, and cruises before giving up an active life and moving to Fairwood Retirement Village.

He was a member of the Brentwood Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and lifetime member of the VFW.

Dale is survived by his wife Jeanne Gough; sister Shirley Marion of Spokane; brother Norm Gough of Coeur d’Alene, ID; daughter Cheryl Stone of Gig Harbor, WA; sons Glenn Gough of Auburn, WA, Clifford Gough of Gig Harbor, WA, Gordon Gough of Seattle, WA, stepson, Jim Lammers (Jan) of Spokane, WA; grandsons Clay Procter, Cory Procter and Casey Procter; granddaughter Sidney Gough; great-grandsons Austin Procter, Avery Procter and Evan Procter.

A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 401 W. Regina, Spokane, WA 99218.
