In brief: Three library branches extend their hours

SPOKANE – Three public libraries will nearly double the hours they are open beginning today. The East Side, Hillyard and Indian Trail branches’ new hours will be: Tuesdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The extension of hours is possible because voters passed a levy in February. To celebrate the new hours – the longest since 2004 – the three branches will hold open houses Tuesday, serving snacks all day and treating patrons to live music. At 4 p.m., Ruby Devine will be at the Hillyard branch, Jenny Edgren will be at the East Side Library and The Blue Water Strangers will be at the Indian Trail branch.

The South Hill and Shadle library branches retain their current hours: Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The downtown library remains open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
