Eagles shut down Bengals

Hayley Hodgins scored 19 points, Lexie Nelson added 18 and Eastern Washington thrived defensively in a 67-55 Big Sky Conference win over Idaho State on Saturday at Reese Court in Cheney.

The win was the Eagles’ sixth in their past seven games following an 0-5 start to the season.

Eastern Washington (6-6, 2-1) held the Bengals (3-8, 1-1) to 36.5 percent shooting. The Eagles are 3-0 this season when holding opponents below 40-percent shooting.

Idaho 92, Chicago State 42: The Vandals (9-7, 2-0) surged ahead 15-4 to open the game and overwhelmed the cold-shooting Cougars (2-12, 0-2) in a Western Athletic Conference game in Chicago.

Idaho junior Stacey Barr had 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists and senior Alyssa Charlston added 15 points and five rebounds.

Whitworth 76, Willamette 50: The Pirates (8-3, 2-0) overcame a sluggish start and routed the Bearcats (2-9, 0-2) in a Northwest Conference game in Salem, Ore.

K.C. McConnell had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Kayla Johnson added 11 points and 10 boards for Whitworth, which surged after falling behind 17-12 early.

Salt Lake 68, North Idaho 63 (OT): Natalie Parsons and Mercedes Riggs scored 15 points apiece and the Bruins (14-4, 3-0) edged the Cardinals (16-3, 2-2) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Coeur d’Alene.

Renae Mokrzycki made 7 of 9 shots and scored 16 points for NIC.
