Obituary: Oakley, William Hershel, Sr. “Willy”

Age 77

OAKLEY, William Hershel, Sr. “Willy” March 28, 1936- December 27, 2013 Passed peacefully at his home in Spokane Valley, Washington.

Born in West Liberty, Kentucky to Elvis and Olene Oakley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn (DeSmeth) Oakley; and his three sons, Raymond L. Oakley, William H. Oakley Jr. (Tammi), and Robert Oakley (Michelle); nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sisters Charlotte Bourelle, Anne Hemmelgarn, and Alice James.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Novella Shropshire.

Willy served four years in the Air Force and was stationed at Larson AFB in Moses Lake, WA.

Willy’s love for baseball followed him to the Air Force where he continued to play as catcher.

His family was sure he would become a pro player.

Will worked at Ernie Major Ford and Empire Ford as an expert parts man for 36 years until he retired in 1998.

He loved to go to car shows with his labor of love - ‘49 Ford Pickup.

He enjoyed sharing his love of antique cars with his many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2013 at 11 am at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.
