Obituary: Oton, Eleanor “Jean”
Age 87
Passed away December 20, 2013 at her home in Spokane.
She grew up in the LA area till age seven, when her mom and her moved to Nevada City, California.
She moved back to LA as a teen.
She moved to the Santa Cruz, CA., area in 1958 and San Jose area in 1964, where she was employed by Lockheed until retirement in 1982.
She moved to Spokane in 1984 and started a whole new life here.
She had a great love of history.
Some people knew her as the pretend cook at the Campbell house where she gave tours.
Some knew her as the historical women’s right advocate May Hutton with her history talks.
Some knew her as Madam Ruby Ridge at the Bordello in Wallace, Idaho.
She was Mrs.
Clause at the Mail Boxes/UPS Store for 13 years, and the Bug Lady reading to kids, but a lot of people just knew her as “Grandma Jean”.
Preceded in death by three siblings; four husbands: Marvin Tamplin, Glen Sheperd, Larry Grilli and Transito Oton; and her only son Thomas Norval Tamplin in 1986.
Survived by three daughters: Christine Hanson, Mead, WA., Michele Claire, Seaside, CA., and Andrea Oton at her home; six grand children; and nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; Also, one dog and six cats.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rebecca Lodge, the first women Sheriff of the Westerners, and the Queen Mum of her Red Hats.
