Declared Missouri junior running back Henry Josey has declared for the NFL draft. Tuesday’s announcement comes four days after Josey was the offensive player of the game for the Tigers’ Cotton Bowl victory over Oklahoma State. Josey ran for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score. He rushed for 1,166 yards with 16 touchdowns.
• Ball State receiver Willie Snead is giving up his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft. The junior had 106 receptions for 1,516 and 15 touchdowns – all single-season school records.
• Auburn left tackle Greg Robinson says he’s leaving for the NFL draft. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Robinson is a third-year sophomore. Robinson is projected as a possible first-round pick after starting every game for the Tigers.
Agreed Former All-Star catcher Ramon Hernandez has agreed to a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals. The 37-year-old is a career .263 hitter in 15 seasons in the major leagues. His 757 RBIs since the start of the 1999 season are fifth among major league catchers during that span.
Announced USA Basketball has named Breanna Stewart its female athlete of the year. The UConn sophomore also was player of the year in 2011. Stewart led the FIBA U19 World Championship team to a gold medal this past summer. The 6-foot-5 sensation helped UConn win the national championship as a freshman and has guided the Huskies to a 15-0 mark so far.
Suspended The Big Ten has suspended Hawkeyes basketball coach Fran McCaffery for Thursday’s game and fined Iowa $10,000 for his outburst during Sunday’s loss at Wisconsin. An Iowa spokesman said that Thursday’s scheduled giveaway of McCaffery bobbleheads will likely be moved to a date later this season.
