Obituary: Gittings, Charles “Ben”
Mr. Gittings is survived by a wife, Laurel, three children, Charles, Darby, and Matt and two step- children, Ann and Lawney Deasy.
He also leaves behind 15 step and grandchildren, Brianna, Christopher, Cody, Daniele, Jessica, Joel, Keira, Killian, Ky, Michael, Noel, Ralon, Rochelle, Sean, and Tristan.
In addition, he leaves behind five great-step and grandchildren: June, Adaelle, Charis, Anna, and Grace.
He grew up in Ellensburg, the son of William and Helen Gittings.
Ben is a Veteran of the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Service Star, and United Nations Service Ribbon.
He served with distinction as a solider in Korea, including aiding with the evacuation and fall of North Korea, where he was wounded.
Ben received commendations for his dedication and bravery.
The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest, helping countless Veterans as a service officer.
In his spare time, he loved hunting and fishing.
A memorial service will be held this Friday, January 10, at 11:30 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 312 S. Spruce St., Spokane, WA, following the service will be an honor guard detail at 1:30 p.m. at the Washington Veterans Cemetery at 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, and ending with a reception at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 51 at 300 W. Mission Ave., Spokane, WA.
