Arena Football League seizes San Antonio franchise

The Arena Football League says it has seized control of its San Antonio franchise after its ownership group failed to meet its obligations. Commissioner Jerry Kurz tells the San Antonio Express-News that the league is seeking a new ownership group in the hope of keeping the San Antonio Talons in San Antonio. The team was owned by a group led by A. David Lynd, a San Antonio real estate investor. The Express-News says the ownership’s woes became so acute that team players had been threatened with eviction from units for which rent subsidies were promised. Attendance averaged less than 8,000 per game at the Alamodome over the past two seasons. – AP
