Suspected gunmen crash downtown after police chase

Two men suspected of firing guns in the 1800 block of West Gardner have been arrested after they led police on a chase that ended at Main Avenue and Browne Street in downtown Spokane around noon today. Police don’t know whom the men were firing at, said Spokane Department spokeswoman Monique Cotton. “At this point, we’ve not identified a victim,” she said. An officer spotted a car matching the description reported in the shots fired call. The driver ran a red light downtown shortly before the occupants started throwing items from the car, Cotton said. The car crashed into two other cars near Main and Brown and both men ran from police. Jesus Valencia, 29, and Lloyd Brice, 25, were booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of drive by shooting. Brice faces an additional felony charge of hit and run. Both men are from Stockton, Calif. Police recovered four firearms near Main and Wall that were apparently thrown from the vehicle, Cotton said. One person involved in the crash received minor injuries.
