Leaving Free safety Ed Reynolds and right tackle Cameron Fleming are the latest Stanford players to announce they are forgoing their final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft. Reynolds ranked third at Stanford with 87 tackles. Fleming started on the right side of Stanford’s stout offensive line the past three seasons.

Promoted Oregon has promoted linebackers coach Don Pellum to defensive coordinator, replacing Nick Aliotti, who retired after 17 seasons following the Ducks’ 30-7 win over Texas in the Alamo Bowl.

Hired The University of Massachusetts has hired Mark Whipple as its football coach. He returns to the school he coached from 1998 through 2003 and led to the Division I-AA national championship in his first season.

Resigned Football strength and conditioning coach Rob Oviatt has resigned after four seasons at the University of Montana. Coach Mick Delaney says Oviatt is leaving for personal reasons. Oviatt came to Montana in 2010 from Washington State, where he served as the assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning from 2000-08.

Acquired Former North Carolina swingman P.J. Hairston has joined the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League. Hairston didn’t play at UNC this season due to NCAA violations.

Traded D.C. United has traded defender Ethan White to the Philadelphia Union for defender Jeff Parke.

Filed Former Cardinals first baseman Jack Clark is asking a court to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed against him by fellow former St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols. Clark said on his radio show he knew for a fact that Pujols “was a juicer.” Clark argued that the lawsuit fails to make the case that Pujols was defamed.

Agreed Second baseman Brian Roberts and the New York Yankees have completed their $2 million, one-year contract.
