Obituary: Fuller, James G.

Age -16

FULLER, Lt. Col. James G. (Ret) (1929 - 2013) Jim was born in Spokane, WA., on December 27, 1929 to Willard and Bernice Fuller.

He grew up in Spokane and graduated from John Rogers High School in 1948.

Jim attended the U.S.

Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD., from 1948-50.

He received his BS in Civil Engineering from Washington State University in 1957.

On April 14, 1950 he married Virginia Angerer.

They have two daughters, Diane born in 1954 and Cathy 1957.

Jim retired from the U.S. Army and Avista Corporation.

He was a helicopter pilot and was stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL., and Ft. Benning, GA.

He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He received the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Aviator Badge and Combat Infantry Badge.

After returning home to Spokane, he went to work for Washington Water Power Co. (Avista) as a hydroelectric engineer for the next 20 years.

He retired in 1988.

He was active in and served as President of National and State Civil and Professional Engineer Societies, the Reserve Officers Assoc.

and the Spokane Engineers forum.

Jim is a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.

He served on the vestry and as a lay reader.

Jim had many community involvements including: Whitworth Water District Commissioner, Aquifer Protection Committee, Crisis Counselor for Vietnam Vets, AARP Tax Aid, Mt.

Spokane Ski Patrol, and many others.

Jim enjoyed skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving, travel, Maui and the time spent with family and friends at the cabin he built on the Pend Orielle River.

He enjoyed the symphony, reading and stimulating conversation.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ginny.

Daughters Diane (Paul) Switzer and Cathy (Ron) Armacost.

Grandchildren Travis, Tyler (Dayna) and Emma Switzer, Diane Cain and Darla Douglass.

Great grand-daughters Cassi and Morgan Cain, Addison Douglass, nieces and a nephew.

A Memorial Service for Jim will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall Street, Spokane, WA.
