Man with lengthy criminal history back in jail on rape charge

Bond was set at $30,000 for a Spokane man Thursday after being arrested on suspicion of second-degree rape. Armando A. Reed, 36, who is alleged to have raped a female relative after plying her with drugs and alcohol, is no stranger to the court system. He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and first-degree arson in Chelan County in 2002 and was released from prison in 2012. Spokane County Superior Court Judge Greg Sypolt noted that Reed is scheduled to stand trial next month on a second-degree assault charge. “There are allegations of significant violent behavior,” Sypolt said. Reed had been free after posting a $20,000 bond in the assault case. Sypolt raised that bond to $30,000 in addition to imposing a new bond on the rape charge.
