Whits fall at George Fox

George Fox sent the Whitworth men’s basketball team to its first Northwest Conference loss of the season Friday night, 98-85 in Newberg, Ore.

The Pirates (10-4, 4-1) led 9-6 early before the Bruins went on a 22-4 run and took a lead they never relinquished.

Dustin McConnell scored a season-high 23 points to lead Whitworth, and Colton McCargar added 14.

The Pirates play at Linfield tonight.

• Four Sasquatch players scored in double figures but it wasn’t enough in an 80-77 NWAACC loss to Treasure Valley (9-5, 2-0) in Ontario, Ore.

Chase Haack scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds to lead CCS (12-5, 2-1), with Kwinn Hanson adding 18 points. Dean Richey scored 15 and Jack Nygaard 11 for the Sasquatch.

Arena football

The Spokane Shock added wide receiver Thomas Mayo and offensive lineman Nick Speller. To make room on the roster, wide receivers Jeffrey Solomon and Duane Brooks were placed on recallable reassignment.

Both Mayo and Speller had previously played for the Shock.

Prep wrestling

University is in third place after the first day of the Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High School in Missoula.

The Titans have six wrestlers remaining in the championship bracket.

University’s Cameron Swanson (106 pounds), Cameron Sorensen (126), John Fairbanks (160), Austin Stannard (170) and Tate Orndorff (285) advanced to today’s semifinals and are still in the hunt for individual titles.

Central Valley is fifth, Mead is sixth and Coeur d’Alene is 11th.

College wrestling

North Idaho benefited from three forfeits and defeated Southwestern Oregon 38-9 in a dual in Coos Bay, Ore.

In the 149-pound class, NIC’s Jeremy Golding earned an 18-2 technical fall over Aaron Nabinger-Villarin.

Junior hockey

Justin Bonanno scored twice to guide the Spokane Braves (14-22-0-4) to a 2-0 KIJHL win over Castlegar (18-18-2-3) at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.
