Obituary: Deaver, Ethel Evaline
Age 91
She passed peacefully, surrounded by family, knowing that she was deeply loved by all.
Ethel Deaver was blessed with a heart of gold and a smile to match.
Any conversation with her was never about herself, but all about whomever she was talking to, what they cared about and what they were doing.
From the students she was helping find careers for, to the child taking his boots off at the end of a day skiing, it was all about the people around her.
Ethel lived her life to the fullest extent possible.
In addition to being an avid skier, she enjoyed playing racquetball, tennis, volleyball, waterskiing (until she was 85), golf, backpacking, bicycling and whitewater kayaking.
She also became an avid hockey fan in her later years attending countless Spokane Chiefs hockey games.
When not involved in these sports she would spend her time taking care of her jet black 1995 Ford Bronco.
In the summer if you drove by you would often see her washing and waxing her prize ride.
As she grew older she continued to find ways to stay in shape by walking a mile or two through the neighborhood daily, making many friends along the way.
Throughout her entire life never once did a discouraging word of self-pity ever cross her mind, for Ethel, life was a banquet and she was going to get as much of it as possible.
In short, she was a remarkable woman who will be sorely missed by not only her family, but all she came into contact with.
Locally she is survived by three sons, Lawrence, Gary and Gerald and sister Edith Hanson of Phoenix, AZ.
She had the joy of sharing her life with four grandchildren, Alyssa Johnson of Spokane, Andrea Clay of Spanaway, WA., Evan Deaver and Vanessa Deaver, both of Denver, Co; and three great- grandchildren, Makenna Fitzner of Spokane, Reilley Clay and Zoie Clay, both of Spanaway.
A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 5:00 P.M. at Hazen & Jaeger’s Alwin Chapel, 1306 N. Monroe St., Spokane lead by Dr. Hank Steiner.
In honor of her love of young people and education, donations in her name to the: 49 Degrees North Ski Patrol Scholarship Education Fund will be deeply appreciated.
