Obituary: Hattamer, Rosalie

HATTAMER, Rosalie Rosalie was born in July of 1921 in Wimm, Germany and went peacefully to Heaven in January of 2014 in the Spokane Valley.

She was born two years after the end of WWI and her father was a veteran of the German Army.

Rosalie grew up through the rise and fall of the National Socialist Workers party.

She met her future husband, Ralph, who was an Army soldier stationed with the American allies in Germany.

Against Army regulations, Ralph, began fraternizing with a German National, Rosalie, and fell in love.

Ralph returned to the U.S. in 1945, to care for his dying mother.

It was at this time he earnestly began the long process to have Rosalie sponsored in order for her to come to the United States.

After three years and many love letters, they got their wish.

Rosalie flew to New York City, where she was greeted by Ralph and drove to his home town of Holcome, Wisconsin.

They were married the very next day, August 19, 1948 in Connell, Wisconsin.

Their first three children, Eric, Frank and Mary were born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

In 1956, Ralph sold their dairy farm to his youngest brother, Clifford, in order to move out west to join his Uncle Bill and two brothers, Clarence and Jim and there they started over.

In the Spokane Valley they added daughters, Rose Ann, Sharon and Theresa and youngest son, Stephen, to their growing family.

They were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years and were married for 54 years.

Rosalie was a devoted wife and “one of a kind” mother.

She was a true friend to many.

We as a family will miss her dearly.

Rosalie is survived by her children Eric (Susie), Frank (Lori), Mary Henson (Tom), Rose Ann Strait (Rich), Sharon Henson (Jeff) and Theresa Anderson (Ted); her sister, Therese Johnson and 21 grand- children, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosalie is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, son Stephen, grandson Elias Ralph Hattamer, her parents Franz and Rosalie Mitterweger and two brothers, Frank and Michael.
