Women’s Souper Bowl a chance to revel in winter

An annual event that encourages women to take an enjoyable step into winter is set for Feb. 2.

The Women’s Souper Bowl IX – which includes cross-country skiing and snowshoeing activities, treats, prizes and lunch – is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. based out of Selkirk Lodge at Mount Spokane. The fundraiser supports the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant.

Activities end in time to avoid conflict with the broadcast of the “other” Super Bowl.

Events are open to women of all ages and athletic ability. Free snowshoe rentals and lessons are available on site; discounted cross-country ski rentals are available in advance.

Events at this year’s Souper Bowl include:

• 10K Poker Ski (best hand winds).

• 7.2K Poker Snowshoe.

• Guided and unguided snowshoe treks.

• Lodge and tent seating for lunch. Round-trip transportation sponsored by REI. Buses will pick up and return at Global Credit Union offices in downtown and in Spokane Valley, with stops at Mt. Spokane High School. Cost: $5.

Tickets: A $30 minimum suggested donation is requested for registrations received by Friday, or $40 for late registrations. Register at souperbowlspokane.org.

Last year, 298 women turned out for the event, helping volunteers raise $12,457 after expenses for the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant.
