Obituary: Hofer, Mariah Jean Persis

HOFER, Mariah Jean Persis 1993 - 2014 20 years ago in Eastern Washington a baby girl was born 12/18/93.

She was baptized at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Spokane 12/22/95.

Mariah passed away in Waitsburg at the home of her parents, Cindy and Gary Hofer, on 1/14/14.

She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Glen Hofer and Clarence “Dick” Bishop some years ago and grandmother, Aggie Bishop of Spokane just weeks ago in early December.

As a young girl growing up Mariah brought much joy to many.

She displayed many talents including singing, dancing, athletic abilities including team sports, ice skating and horseback riding.

She attended Saint Patrick Kindergarten Spokane, and then Waitsburg schools for much of her youth.

She received her High School diploma on 12/9/11 from Walla Walla Community College.

Later she attended some college there studying Viticulture and Enology.

In recent months she had been happily employed at Dayton Mercantile, anticipating returning to college soon.

Aside from her interests in all sports, “Riah” was politically active, presenting testimony on various bills to advocate greater rights for children in foster and or kinship care.

In addition to her parents, Gary and Cindy Hofer, she is survived by grandmothers, Ginger Hofer and Hazel Bishop; grandfather known as “Uncle Grandpa Tyke” (Ron Bishop); brothers: Ansehl, Mans (Tish) and niece, Kylee Hofer.

Uncle Gabriel Hofer (also her Godfather), and Godmother, Lindarae Persis Watts.

Other survivors include: Uncles, Dan Hofer and Jim Bishop, Aunts: Jeannie Hofer Alcazar, Linda (Bishop) Sabie and Coleen (Bishop) Reavill Prescott.

Other loving family include: the family of Ronald “Jeff” Bishop, half-sister Adrien and her biological sister known to us as Christiana.

She was also blessed with a huge constellation of cousins, Wendi, Eric, Candi, David, Santili.

She was preceded in death by infant sister Stephany Bishop.

The Rosary will be at 6:00 PM, Friday 1/24/14 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Waitsburg Washington.

The funeral mass will be at the same location; 11:00 a.m. Saturday, 1/25/14.

Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Waitsburg and a pot-luck luncheon will be served at Ye Old Towne Hall in Waitsburg.
