Area roundup: Cougar women’s basketball falls to Oregon

Jillian Alleyne had 21 points and 19 rebounds Friday night to give Oregon its first Pac-12 Conference win of the season, against visiting Washington State 82-66 at Eugene.

Alleyne reached her 14th straight double-double and 16th of the season on a pair of free throws with 16:29 left in the game. Those free throws sparked a 10-0 Oregon run that broke a 35-35 tie and gave the Ducks (10-8, 1-6) the lead for good.

Chrishae Rowe scored 24, Danielle Love had 14 rebounds and Lexi Petersen added 13 points as Oregon outrebounded Washington State 59-35.

The Cougars (11-8, 5-2) forced 25 turnovers, but struggled shooting, making 29.2 percent (21 of 72).

Lia Galdeira led WSU with 16 points and Tia Presley added 14.

Oregon State 75, Washington 68: Ali Gibson scored 16 points and led four starters in double-figures scoring as the Beavers shot past the Huskies in a Pac-12 game in Corvallis, Ore.

Sydney Wiese finished with 13 points and dished out six assists for OSU (11-8, 3-4).

UW (10-8, 3-4) got 27 points from Kelsey Plum and another 21 from Jazmine Davis.

Track and field

Washington State sophomore Dominique Keel led the Cougar women with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash at the Jacksons Invite in Nampa, Idaho.

Keel finished in 24.63 seconds.

Terrance Chambers led the Cougar men with a sixth-place finish in the 200. He crossed in 21.89, a personal best.

• Washington State’s Jackson Haselnus won the men’s mile at the Vandal Collegiate in Moscow, Idaho.

Haselnus finished in a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 17.89 seconds.

Whitworth had a pair of event champions. Christina Dobbins won the women’s high jump after clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

Whitworth’s Casey Monahan won the men’s 60-meter hurdles in 9.36 and was fifth in the 200 in 27.17.

Eastern Washington had two weight throwers qualify for the Big Sky championships. Shaun Lemafa threw 56-4 to place fourth in Moscow. EWU’s Zack Nielsen (61-6) and Jordan Arakawa (61-5) placed first and second. Emma Murillo finished third in the women’s throw at 55-2, a qualifying mark.

Andy Phillips, who finished third in the men’s mile with a time of 4:18.38, was among a handful of Gonzaga athletes who set personal records.
