Girls roundup: Lake City girls defeat Post Falls

Natalie Wheelock scored 14 points and Madi Farrell pulled down 10 rebounds as Lake City used an early advantage to get past Post Falls 49-42 in an Inland Empire League 5A girls basketball game Friday night in Coeur d’Alene.

The Timberwolves (10-8, 2-3) outscored the Trojans 11-5 at the start and led 28-18 at the half.

Sam Runkle led Post Falls (9-8, 0-4) with 12 points.

Coeur d’Alene 47, Lewiston 27: Brittany Tackett had 10 points, seven steals and five rebounds as the Vikings (16-2, 4-1) opened the game on a 15-2 run and eased past the host Bengals (14-2, 3-1). Sydney Williams added 11 points and Sara Chalich 10 for Coeur d’Alene. Lewiston beat Coeur d’Alene by three in the teams’ first meeting on Dec. 17.

Great Northern

West Valley 51, Deer Park 30: Erin Higbie scored 16 points and Rachel McGlothlen added 15 as the Eagles (10-4, 4-2) gained an early advantage and beat the host Stags (1-13, 0-6). Katelynn Irish had nine points for DP.

Colville 50, Pullman 31: Taryn Main hit three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points as the Indians (10-3, 4-2) broke open a close game in the second half and defeated the host Greyhounds (6-8, 2-4). Becca Wickard scored 13 points for Pullman.

Clarkston 72, Cheney 45: Kristen Carey led three players in double figures with 15 points and the Bantams (8-6, 6-0) routed the host Blackhawks (3-10, 1-5). Charlie Dimke and Sequoia Swan added a combined 23 points for Clarkston. Kendyl Cone and Shyann Morton scored 14 points apiece for Cheney.

Northeast A

Freeman 57, Newport 37: Katie Vold scored 16 points and Sierra McGarity added 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists as the Scotties (11-4, 7-0) built an 18-point halftime lead and coasted past the visiting Grizzlies (10-6, 3-5). Haley Burke added 12 points for Freeman. Newport’s Holly Malsbury had 18 points.

Chewelah 55, Riverside 37: Kaitlin Krouse had 18 points and 12 rebounds to guide the Cougars (4-12, 2-6) past the visiting Rams (5-11, 2-6). Maggie Cobb added eight points and six steals for Chewelah. Riverside was led by Julianna Trepanier, who scored 14.

Kettle Falls 54, Medical Lake 40: Erin Johnson scored 21 points and Makayla Hall added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals as the Bulldogs (9-6, 4-4) dominated in the second half and beat the visiting Cardinals (5-10, 3-5). A 16-2 Medical Lake run in the second quarter gave the Cardinals a 29-20 halftime lead, but Kettle Falls outscored Medical Lake 34-11 in the second half. Cassidy Hagel scored 10 points for Medical Lake.

Central Idaho 2A

Coeur d’Alene Charter 34, Orofino 14: Sarah Haman scored 14 points and Jacklyn Jenson pulled down 10 rebounds as the Panthers (7-7, 2-2) jumped ahead 10-1 to start the game and went on to beat the host Maniacs.

Northeast 2B

St. George’s 50, Springdale 41: Ceci Bergquist had 18 points and seven rebounds as the Dragons (8-10, 6-6) opened the game on a 10-2 run and held on late to beat the visiting Chargers (2-16, 1-11). Hayley Higashi added 14 points for St. George’s, which forced 23 turnovers.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 46, Liberty 34: The Broncos (11-5, 8-3) got out to a quick start and held on to beat the Lancers (5-13, 4-8) in Ritzville. Mallory Kessler scored 15 points and Tessa Jantz 11 for LRS, which opened the game on a 13-2 run. Aly Tee led Liberty with 14 points.

Davenport 60, Reardan 43: Allison Johnson scored 18 points to guide the Gorillas (9-8, 6-5) past the host Indians (3-15, 1-11). Maddie Johnson scored 16 points for Reardan, which couldn’t recover after falling behind by 11 points in the first quarter.

Northeast 1B North

Inchelium 55, Curlew 40: Tasheena Kholer scored 16 points and Jaylene Lelone added 14 as the Hornets (5-5, 4-4) took control in the second quarter and beat the host Cougars (7-7, 5-4). A 17-8 second-quarter run gave Inchelium an 11-point lead at halftime. Curlew’s Lindsey Gibson scored 16 points.

Cusick 73, Northport 12: Ryean Pierre and Caytlin Nenema scored 14 points apiece and the Panthers (8-4, 5-3) overwhelmed the host Mustangs (0-17, 0-11). Cusick led 25-0 after the first quarter.

Northeast 1B South

Wellpinit 43, Valley Christian 41: Kyra Antone made a layup with 4 seconds left to give the Redskins (7-7, 3-2) a win over the visiting Panthers (1-10, 0-4). Antone finished with a game-high 14 points. Kailee Hayek led Valley Christian with nine points.

Southeast 1B

St. John-Endicott 58, Liberty Christian 25: Abby Glorfield scored 14 points as the Eagles (10-5, 8-3) pulled away in the second half and dumped the visiting Patriots. Emily Jones added 10 rebounds for SJE. Liberty Christian’s Raylene Monteith scored 10 points.

Rosalia 45, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 22: Shannon Carrothers had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Hannah Beach added eight points and 10 boards as the Spartans (7-7, 4-6) topped the visiting Tigercats (1-13, 0-11).

Touchet 51, Garfield-Palouse 24: Cierra Jo McKeown made four 3-pointers and scored 30 points as the Indians shook off a sluggish start and dumped the Vikings (4-11, 2-9) in Palouse. Taylor Redman led Garfield-Palouse with 12 points.

Central Washington 2B

Oroville 45, Lake Roosevelt 40: Lilly Hilderbrand scored 21 points to guide the Hornets past the visiting Raiders. Riley Epperson led Lake Roosevelt with 11 points.

Nonleague

Lakeside (Idaho) 61, Clark Fork 33: Thanks in large part to its aggressive pressure defense, the Knights (4-10) jumped out to a 20-point first-quarter lead and coasted past the Wampus Cats (1-7) in Plummer. Four Lakeside players had at least five steals. Avery Brown-Saunders scored 21 points and Caylin Dohrman and Lillian Rhea pulled down nine rebounds apiece for the Knights.

Wallace 51, Mullan 34: Emily Nelson had 20 points and 21 rebounds and Jordan Browning added 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Miners (11-2) routed the visiting Tigers.
