Obituary: Haffner, Emily (Howard)

Age 91

HAFFNER, Emily (Howard) (Age 91) Haffner, Emily Howard, 91, died in Salt Lake City on December 17, 2013.

Emily was born in San Francisco and graduated from the Katherine Delmar Burke School.

She then attended Stanford University where she met Robert Haffner.

They married after the war and moved to Kellogg, Idaho.

During the next decades Bob’s mining career took the family to the Midwest, returning to Kellogg in 1963.

After a stint in Faro, Yukon Territories, Bob and Emily moved to Spokane, and then to Salt Lake City in 1980.

While in Spokane, they were active members of the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.

Emily loved to write and lucky friends and family received funny, perceptive and charming descriptions of her life with Bob from the early days of their marriage in Kellogg to life in the far north to their worldwide travels.

With her droll sense of humor, quick wit and generous heart, Emily made friends everywhere they lived.

Emily is survived by son, Kinsey Haffner; daughter, Nancy Haffner; grandchildren, Abigail Blum, Nathaniel Blum, David Haffner, Erika Vexler, Jessika Vexler, Linda Monterrey-Mantica, and Ximena Loops; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Gifts may be given in Emily’s memory to the Alzheimer Foundation.
