Reverse inequality
On the evening of Martin Luther King Day, I was inspired and encouraged by being part of a sold-out audience at the Bing Crosby Theater for the showing of Robert Reich’s film “Inequality For All.” I believe that most of the attendees left with a feeling of empowerment that the current state of affairs can be changed.
The agenda for achieving this includes a health care payment system that eliminates the fear of insolvency due to medical bills. It also includes the need to revise our tax structure, which currently forces middle-class wage earners to pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than the wealthy. It includes having enough state revenue to fully fund education so that we restore our competitiveness in the world market. It includes providing living wages for all employees, and a reasonable expectation for advancement.
It is time for the 99 percent to reclaim government from the hands of the corporations and billionaires who currently make all the rules, to the detriment of the rest of us. We can do this, because we have a dream.
